Column Shelf is a modular shelving system hand-crafted from solid oak, that can be built in countless configurations. Each column features a subtle entasis, a classic architectural gesture reimagined with a new purpose. The shelves appear to slip over the vertical columns, gently compressing them, creating the illusion of a flexible material. The result is a visual tension between structure and softness, elegance and play, enriched with just enough detail to elevate its quiet presence into a timeless, sculptural statement.
"The idea behind the Column Shelf was to explore how rigid materials could evoke flexibility. By allowing the shelves to seemingly grip the continuous columns, I wanted to create a rhythm, like tying a balloon into segments. My goal was to distill the design to its essential gestures while giving it character through proportion and the relationship between its parts."
